Connie Mooney Wins Apple Pie Contest

For baking the best apple pie in the county, an Arroyo Grande mother of three sons took top honors in the 2008 “Idler’s, Mom & Apple Pie” baking contest and will receive a new KitchenAid pro-series convection range from Idler’s. A special panel of six judges chose the apple pie baked by Connie Mooney as the grand prize winner.

What is Connie Mooney’s secret for baking a great pie? “I take lots of time, follow my instincts and practice.” Connie’s husband, three growing sons and friends get a lot of “practice pies” to enjoy.

This was the 24th year of the “Mom & Apple Pie” contest sponsored by Idler’s. Over those years, Idler’s has given away 24 new ranges, over 200 KitchenAid hand mixers and well over 2,000 commemorative aprons to area moms.
 

This year’s second place winner, Rebecca Sanchez of Paso Robles, received a KitchenAid stand mixer from Idler’s. The third place winner, Ion Keas of Los Osos, took home a KitchenAid microwave oven.

A total of 90 apple pies were entered in this year’s contest which was held at the three Idler’s Appliance stores during April.
